Laptop or Desktop

When buying a mac, sometimes you may need to decide on which mac you need according to your budget and usage. Really there are two kinds of macs that you could choose from… a Desktop or a Laptop.

So there are a few questions you can ask yourself:

  1. Will I need to take it with me on trips?    Yes- you need a laptop
  2. Do I have a dedicated place for it to sit?    Yes- you can use a desktop
  3. Do I want to work in bed or on the couch?    Yes- you need a laptop
  4. Do I need to edit video and graphics?    Yes- you may need a desktop

So basically, if you need it to be portable and you don’t need a lot of power for the tasks you will be doing, then a laptop will work very well for what you will be using it for. If you are needing more power under the hood and don’t need it to be portable, then the desktop is your machine.

Now that you have that out of the way, it is time to look at your options…

Let’s start with laptops:

  • Macbook Air – Great for the road warrior, light weight, and smaller in size.
  • Macbook – A little more power but tends to stay in the smaller size range.
  • Macbook Pro – The most powerful of the laptop family and you can even do some of the more power hungry tasks. Larger screen sizes are available.

Here are the desktops:

  • Mac Mini – A minimalistic desktop that is designed to replace a previous computer and using the previous monitor.
  • iMac – your all in one computer. The screen and computer are one unit which makes it nice and less clutter.
  • iMac Pro – This is similar in look to the iMac but has a ton more under the hood. Knock out graphic design or video editing with ease on this one.
  • Mac Pro – This has incredible power to overcome any job you throw at it. Again you will want to get a monitor that can handle this puppy.

Here is the lesson on this subject below…
