Use Your iMac As A Monitor
Have you ever wanted to use an old iMac as a monitor or external display?
We have too and have been left with the disappointment that you feel to have this awesome computer screen be rendered useless. Well pull that iMac out of the closet or storage or where ever you have it stored because we are going to tackle this task and take you with us as we do it!
So apparently there is a way, to use that bigger screen as an extra monitor, that is really quite simple… but, if you don’t know how to do it, can seem impossible. You are going to laugh, as we did once we show you how to achieve this.
Basically, we use something called “Target Display Mode” and a cable to connect our lovely iMac to our other mac using the thunderbolt cables. You will need to make sure you have the right cable and/or adapters to make this work…
but don’t worry…
We have something to help.
We also have a guide you can print out and follow too if that helps.
Even though many other models of iMac are not listed, we have tried with other models and have had it work just fine. The key is having the right cable to make the connection between the macs.
So now that you have your guide and an idea on how it all works, let’s get started. Feel free to follow along if you are as excited to learn this as we were!
Here we go…
